Jamia Al-Karam’s Vice-Principal appointed to Seerat-un-Nabi Chair at Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad

The Vice-Principal of Jamia Al-Karam, Bakhtyar H Pirzada al-Azhari, has been appointed Member of the Board of Management for the Seerat-un-Nabi Chair at the Allama Iqbal Open University of Islamabad in Pakistan. The notification was issued by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum on 25th April 2022.

The Allama Iqbal Open University (popularly known as AIOU) is a public research university located in Islamabad, Pakistan, and it is Asia’s first and the world’s second Open University. It was established in 1974 and is noted as being one of the world’s largest institutions of higher learning with an annual enrolment of over one million students. It is regarded as one of the premier institutions of higher learning as well as research in the development of education.

Under the auspice of the Centre of Excellence at the Allama Iqbal Open University, the Seerat-un-Nabi Chair has recently been established at the main university campus in Islamabad. The overall objective of the Chair is to develop awareness and knowledge, conduct research and encourage practices in accordance with the blessed Seerat (Sirah), life and personality of the holy Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and grant him peace).

The first meeting of the Board of Management was held earlier this month in which Bakhtyar H Pirzada al-Azhari participated and offered his insight.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Sahibzada Sajid-ur-Rehman (Head of the Seerat-un-Nabi Chair, AIOU) and attended by Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz (Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology of Pakistan), Mr. Muhammad Rafique Tahir (Senior Advisor and Head of the Project Management Unit, AIOU), Prof. Dr. Fateh Mohammad Malik (Head of the Iqbal Chair, AIOU), Prof. Dr. Aziz-ur-Rehman (Dawah Centre, Karachi), Prof. Dr. Shah Mohyuddin Hashmi (Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, AIOU), Prof. Dr. Shah Moheen-ud-Din Hashmi (Chairman of the Department of Seerat Studies, AIOU), Dr. Samina Awan (Director of the Institute of Educational Technology, AIOU), and Dr. Saeed Ullah (Lahore).
